Rayna Bloom is a professor of abnormal psychology, she’s written
many books and produced award winning documentaries on “haunted
places” such as Hell House, Balasco Manor, Hill House, Winchester
Manor and Lovecraft Manor. Now the time has come to get to the bottom of
the mystery surrounding the Buffalo Central Train Terminal. Professor
Bloom puts together a group that consists of her cameraman/assistant,
and 3 women, each with alleged psychic ability, or paranormal
experience.
Closed after a train crash resulting in only one survivor, the terminal
was used as a temporary holding facility while the Buffalo Asylum for
the Criminally Insane and Mentally Defective was built. Men, women and
children were caged together amongst sexual deviants. When closed,
officials stated that The Terminal was “the closest thing to hell on
earth.” Rumors that the facility was used for surgical experimentation
are also abounding.
Right from the beginning, let me get it out of the way by saying that
the casting for Prison of the Psychotic Damned was great! It’s
not often you see an independent horror movie where there isn’t a
performance or two that doesn’t completely grate on your nerves.
Definitely not so in this flick, everyone shines and I thoroughly
enjoyed all the characters. We hear a bit of back story about each of
them, but writer Williams leaves enough ambiguity there to keep us
wondering at points, no harm in leaving us to think for ourselves now
and then. No major holes in the plot are caused, and it works.
I also enjoyed the entire back story that was created pertaining to the
terminal. There’s a whole wealth of information on the internet, trust
me just do a search. So I have to give kudos to a writer that gets
inspired by a building that was doomed from the start and creates a
“haunted house” story that is pretty chilling. That’s saying
something because haunting stories rarely garner any sort of emotion out
of me. I got a strong “House on Haunted Hill” vibe while watching Prison
and that’s a good thing.
The gore was outstanding, there were a few scenes that got a cringe or
two out of me, and there are some damn fine looking beasties in here as
well. Throw in the attractive cast (showing some skin no less) a bit of
comic relief, a pinch of attitude and some flat-out insanity, and
possessions and you’ve got a winner! Recommended.
Pros Great cast, interesting
story, impressive EFX
Cons Nothing’s perfect so
I’ll nitpick and say too short.
